Getreidefreie Tiernahrung ist heutzutage ein sehr populäres Thema, aber ein genauerer Begriff wäre, sie als Gliadin-freie Nahrung zu bezeichnen. Das Polypeptid Gliadin kommt in Weizen, Gerste, Roggen und Hafer vor und ist für die bei Menschen und Hunden auftretenden glutenempfindlichen Enteropathien verantwortlich.
